Somos Un Solo Pueblo 03 Rafael Hernández

When~Cuando, I was a young Teen in NYC, we'd listen to the Spanish Radio called 'Radio EKEE WUHN 99 de Nueva York. The DisJockey's favorite line was 'El Querer es Vivir' translated 'To Desire is to Live', he was proud of his position having studied Radio Broadcasting at night and riding the NY subways-homeless during the day. We'd listen to him even on Saturday morning, he was a staple of wisecracks and wisdom for us kids to fly right and excel in all we did to make our parents proud of us. Such were the songs we'd listen to 'Mama, Yo tengo frio~Mother I am cold...a lamento~cry how cold the winters in NY were compared to Puerto Rico's Tropic heat. We listen and understand our parent's hopes and dreams of coming to America and their sadness of giving the Joy of their beautiful Island...many lessons were learned, tears shed and laughter on those mornings of long ago. Mama yo tengo memorias~Mother I have memories...that no one will take away. Be Blessed in your day to share the Joy and pains of your upbringing with your descendants...Thank you Liam Velasquez for picking up the torch of our loving laughter in legacy. Love you all, and yes Joel~you are a Puerto Rican <3  Nana Ana 4/3/23 AD.

Christina Applegate gets emotional finding out about violent family hist...

Tis the Luck of the Irish. What an awesome encounter and heartfelt story~searching for her Grandmother. Christina Applegate's father does not remember his mother. Being raised by his Paternal Grandparents, he was told his mother died when he was young. Christina vows to know about her Grandmother's life and the quest begins...She is surprised and heartbroken upon seeing her photo at age 14 on a local N.Jersey society page. Journaling all the dates and happening, she becomes aware of the consequences of her grandmother's life. The laws back in the day differed with respect to favoring mothers concerning child custody, but she wonders why her grandmother didn't raise her son~her dad. Journaling all the information she meets with her dad and shares her grandmother's young-age photo, TEARS!!! Oh, my heart, I've been crying from the beginning of her quest. Christina Applegate shares all her findings with her dad and they both cry together. She finds her grandmother's resting place and they are both surprised to find, his mother added a plot for him-her son. They visited her grave with flowers and her dad promised to put a marker on his mother's grave...oh, my heart...this reminds me of my Mother & Father's grave #26 in Carolina, Puerto Rico which I'm responsible for 'Maintainance' payments of once a year $40. RIP~Descansen en Paz: Francisco Natal Torres & Carmen Badillo Nieves for whoever is reading this and is interested in visiting and honoring their resting place. Mami Nana Ana~March 27, 2023AD.

Tracing Your Family Roots 149 - Puerto Rico DNA

The LatinAsian: A Chinese and Puerto Rican Woman

I can so identify with her. As a small child everyone called me 'La China' because of my 'Asian eyes and Porcelain skin'. It was a 'Baby name' of which I dropped as a Teen. My Oldest Sister also looked like an Asian Beauty. Once a neighbor, who was a 'Merchant Marine' bought her a dress from Japan and it fit like a glove. She wore it to school, I remember it was Pink with Black edging, well she was the toast of the Bronx! You thought I was gonna say 'Town' haha, got ya! Anywho, so we go to 'Chinatown' and I as a little girl got lost. I cried my eyes out. The Chinese lady rescued me and told me to 'Stay here' your mama will come back to the last place she left you...yes, she spoke just like that and me between tears and making bubbles with my nose...pause listened and obeyed. I looked at her and thought, 'She looks like Tata (my sister) and me?!' Confused, I asked her 'Are you my mama?!' She smiled like 'Not Today', but oh, how I wish she would have been because when my Mami found me! Yikes, She yelled in Spanish and the kind lady didn't understand, only that she saved me from being totally lost. My Mami was so embarrassed and yanked my arm, ugh. I wanted to stay with the 'Kind lady' perhaps, maybe, because, only, that she looked like me and my Tata (older sweet sister). I never heard the end of it...even as a Teen my Mami told everyone, she should have left me in Chinatown, I would fit right in being I was a 'Cheenah'...Neither from here nor from there was my dilemma. 🇺🇸 ”Thank You America!” - Desi Arnaz (Toast Of The Town: Oct. 1954) 🇺🇸

Thank you~Thank you America! In an understanding way, we as Hispanics are appreciative in many ways. Opening the doors in support and encouragement to a humble young Cuban refugee. Remembering something my Papi told me long ago...'When Ricky se fue~left Cuba, his Papi~Father told him..' Llevate la guitara'~'Take your Guitar' it was by the door on his way out. 'Te dara una Vida buena'~'It will give you a good life'. Take heed what your Father tells you as you walk out the door~Someday, you will cherish his words~Forever <3  2  <3  Nana Ana. 2/22/23 AD.

Brotherhood of skiers advocating for Black athletes in winter sports

Have you heard of been told...You're the First of 'Your people to do this!' Like my grandson, Liam was told by his fiance (which I love dearly) family member :( 'You'll be the 'First Puerto Rican' to Kayak!' Say, What?! My cousin owned a Kayak and Kajaked in the *Illuminist water at nigh in Puerto Rico! Where do people get these ideas? is beyond me. I remember my brother in law a NY Puerto Rican use to travel all over the place: Skying in Vermont; Kayaking at night*in P.Rico; Rode on the Misty Ferry in Niagra Falls; Arruba~Trade winds; Caves, Mountain, Camping! My grandson Liam does have a 'Puerto Rican Spirit' in that he is not afraid to dare 'Climb every Mountain~Search every Dream!!'  Nana Ana Feb.22,2023 AD.
