HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE

Today we received an email  about the above gentleman. This Veterans name is Shifty.
The story goes he was at an airport and a gentleman stopped to speak with this elderly soldier. On his hat was an Air Force pin. The curious man asked what it was for, and the Veteran proceeded to tell of his flights. With a lump in his throat the man asked if he had been in Normandy, Yes! bright eyed the elderly gentleman told of his lost comrad.
Approaching the plane the man helped the elderly veteran to his seat. Having a first-class seat the man asked the stewardess to exchange with to honor the Veteran. The elderly gentleman spoke, it's Okay son I know there are not many of us left, but he appreciated the kind gesture.
We pass so many Veteran in our walk in life. Lets give Honor to whom Honor is due.....and that's all I have to say about that , no wait.....that reminded me of Saturday, We went to the Veterans standown in Humboldt County. The Fairgrounds were set up for the big event. There was a big turn-out cars everywhere.
We were asked at the gate if we had knives??? The young soldiers had beepers....My husband had to walk back to the car and return his small key-chain knife. We registered and were asked if we need clothe??? apparently we have a homeless population of Vietnam Vets, it's so sad.
The gentleman in charge gave us a free monogramed T-shirt size Medium, we'll give it to my grandson. Hurrying starving we were told lunch was still being served, but when we got there the lady said 'Lunch is done!' :( That was the look on my face. I saw two pieces of pumpkin piece and jumped saying 'Oh! may we have those'. she smiled 'yes:)'. When we sat down ate it tasted so good. :)
My husband and I walked around to the 'Resource Tables', they had everything you could imagine: Social Security; Haircuts; Housing; etc.
REMEMBER: Honor the Vets whereever they serve.
